Prayer: Talking With God

A Simple Conversation

“Hi love! How are you? I miss you! :)” Conversations like this can be simple but are vital for the development of any relationship. Through communication, we express what we feel, what we want to happen, our likes and dislikes. We get to know each other on a deeper level and we begin to share our heart.

Think about it.

How can you come to know someone if you never talk with them?

Prayer

Through prayer–communicating with God– we can come to Him and share our heart and desires with Him. Jesus wants us to pray at all times. He wants us to talk to Him about what is going on in our lives. He wants to be our best friend.

Remember: Jesus wants to have a deep, personal relationship with you.

What God wants to do for you:

  • Be your best friend
  • Communicate with you personally
  • Speak to your heart and show you that He loves you

Reflection
Questions:

  • If I really saw Jesus as my best friend, how would I communicate with Him?
  • Do I talk to Jesus regularly?
  • What is stopping me from pouring out my heart to God?
  • Do I really believe that God wants to speak to me personally?

Take a moment to hear from God:

Read the following Bible passages for the day and ask God to speak to you:

  • Psalm 27:8
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18
  • James 4:8
  • Jeremiah 33:3
  • 1 John 5:14

Have You Eaten Yet?

Have You Eaten Yet?

Have you ever…

Have you ever experienced extreme hunger? When we don’t have food, it can really affect us. Suddenly our priorities shift. The search for something substantial becomes all-encompassing until it is the only thing we think about or want. Most of us eat three meals every day, yet often forget that it is equally as important to feed our spirit. The Word of God is the most nutritious spiritual meal around.

The Word of God

Surprisingly, many Christians don’t make a habit of reading their Bible daily, and then are shocked when their spiritual life begins to weaken. They may begin to lose their faith in God or begin to criticize, argue, and be jealous of one another.

In order for a baby to grow strong and healthy, it needs to have consistent, daily nutrition. It’s the same way with you.

Remember: You aren’t the exception to the rule on daily spiritual food.

What God wants to do through His Word:

  • Reveal to you who He is, Show you His incredible love and His promises
  • Encourage your heart and spirit
  • Speak to you personally
  • Give you wisdom to know how to make the best decisions

Reflection
Questions:

  • Where would my spiritual life be in ten years if I didn’t read my Bible?
  • Do I read my Bible daily and ask God to speak to me through it?
  • What is a verse that I can be encouraged with today?

Take a moment to hear from God:

A Brand New Heart

A Brand New Heart

Imagine

Imagine with me for a minute that you are in an operating room about to undergo open-heart surgery. The news is, you have a serious heart condition. The doctor told you that there is zero chance you can survive without an emergency heart transplant. You are prepped and waiting for the operation, but when the doctor comes into the operating room, you decide that it’s time to take charge. You blurt out: “Okay Doc, here are the rules: I know I need a heart transplant, but I don’t need you to be involved. I’m pretty sure I can change out my heart all by myself.”

What do you think the response of those doctors and nurses would be at that moment?

A Brand New Heart

Ironically, on a spiritual level, we sometimes treat Jesus this way. We may realize that we have some serious heart issues, but Instead of coming to God (the best doctor around), we try to “fix” our own heart. And then we wonder why we still have problems.

The truth is, only God can remove from us our heart of stone, and give us a heart of flesh–a heart that willingly follows Him.

Whatever you are going through right now, choose to come to Jesus. He is a God who specializes in miracles. Ask Him to give you a new, pure heart that is willing to follow Him.

Remember: He promised that if we come to Him and ask Him, He will gift us with a new heart. He is always faithful to His promises!

What God wants to do for you:

  • Take out your heart of stone
  • Give you a “new heart” that willingly follows Him
  • Gift you with the desire and the power to do what pleases Him

Reflection Questions:

  • How is my heart doing?
  • Have I asked God for a new heart?
  • Will I allow God to perform His miracle-work in my heart and in my life?

Take a moment to hear from God:

Read the following Bible passages for the day and ask God to speak to you:
