One night a house caught fire and a young boy was forced to flee to the roof. The father stood on the ground below with outstretched arms, calling to his son, “Jump! I’ll catch you.” He knew the boy had to jump to save his life. All the boy could see, however, were the flames, smoke and darkness. As can be imagined, he was afraid to leave the roof. His father kept yelling: “Jump! I will catch you.” But the boy protested, “Daddy, I can’t see you.” The father replied, “But I can see you and that’s all that matters.”
If you were the little boy in the story, would you choose to jump if you couldn’t see anything?
Every day we face this decision of whether or not to trust God. Even though we don’t see God with our physical eyes, we trust in the God who sees us. We must choose to walk by faith, not just by what we can see.
There are a lot of things that may try to destroy our faith: personal questions, doubts or persecution from others. But if our faith stands firm through the fire of testing, it will be refined like gold.
God is a good Father. Not only does He know what we need, He understands us completely and loves us fully. He never disappoints, breaks His promises, or lets us down. Will you trust Him with your life?
